How Often Should You Really Change Your Oil?

The "every 3,000 miles" rule is outdated for most modern vehicles. Here's what your owner's manual actually says.

How Often Should You Really Change Your Oil?
Maintenance Tip

The short answer

For most cars built after 2010 using synthetic oil, the factory interval is somewhere between 7,500 and 10,000 miles — sometimes longer. For older cars or vehicles on conventional oil, 3,000–5,000 miles still applies. The right number is in your owner's manual, not on a sticker from a quick-lube shop.

When to go shorter

What we do here

We look at your driving pattern, the oil condition, and the factory spec, and give you an interval that actually fits. No up-sell to a 3,000-mile schedule if your car doesn't need it.
